Fishing for bream and the legendary tigerfish on the Chobe River not only provides an exciting fishing experience but also excellent game viewing – crocodile, hippo, elephant and buffalo are common sightings – and birding as well.
Tigerfish, up to 18lbs of pure fight, are more active in warmer water so provide primarily summer fishing from September to February with peak season being around October/November. During the rest of the year, depending upon water levels, June and July are the best time for winter tiger fishing.
A wide range of bream – yellow-bellied, thin-faced, hump back, three spots –are generally best caught in winter between June and August. Weights vary up to 3kg. Occasionally, barbel – catfish of up to 18kg – are also caught during the winter months.
No fishing is allowed inside the Park. All equipment for fly-fishing, as well as spinners, spinner baits and a wide range of bass-type lures, are provided. A knowledgeable guide is on hand for all expeditions which take place in top-quality boats.
